Salary benchmark

Salary benchmark: your salaries against the market

A salary benchmark shows companies in Switzerland with 20 to 100 employees where their pay sits in the market. We compare every role with current Swiss market data for your region and industry, and add what our payroll and recruitment specialists see day to day. You receive an overview per role and clear recommendations for your next pay review and your budget. The price depends on how many roles you include in the comparison, and you receive a fixed-fee offer before any work begins.

Scope

Scope.

A proper record of each role: duties, responsibility, employment level and experience, so every comparison rests on the same basis

A range per role with a lower, middle and upper figure, matched to your canton and your industry

A one-page overview of every role reviewed, with the most urgent first

A look at your salary structure: the gaps between levels and any sign of unequal pay between women and men

The cost of a correction, calculated per role and for the full year

A written report and a discussion with your management, including the arguments you need for conversations with employees

How it works

What to expect.

  1. First conversation: we agree which roles go into the comparison and what you need the result for. You then receive a fixed-fee offer.
  2. Data collection: you send us roles, employment levels, current salaries and role descriptions, straight from your payroll software if that is easiest
  3. Comparison: we pull the market data for your region and industry and restate every role on a comparable basis
  4. Interpretation: our payroll and recruitment specialists check the figures against what the market is paying today
  5. Report and discussion: you receive the written analysis and we go through the recommendations for the pay review and the budget together

Who it is for: For companies preparing a pay review, wanting to keep key people or setting a realistic salary for a new hire.

Outcome

What changes for you.

For every role reviewed you know whether your salary is in line with the market, below it or above it, and what a correction would cost. You walk into the pay review with hard numbers and can explain each decision to your management and your employees. When you hire, you set the salary at a realistic level from the first offer.

Price on request, depending on how many roles you include. You receive a fixed-fee offer up front. The work normally takes two to three weeks from the day you send us the data, and we hold the closing discussion online or at your offices.

Frequently asked questions

Salary benchmark in brief.

What does a salary benchmark cost?

Price on request. The figure depends on how many roles you include in the comparison. You receive a fixed-fee offer before the work begins, so you know your costs in advance. A short comparison covering a few key roles sits at the lower end. A full review of every role in a company of 20 to 100 employees takes more time and is priced accordingly.

Where does the market data come from?

We work with current Swiss market data and compare by role, region and industry, because pay levels differ widely between cantons. The same role often pays considerably more in Zurich or Zug than in Ticino or Valais. Before we compare, we put every figure on the same basis, including the employment level and variable components. Where you pay a thirteenth month's salary, the additional month of pay that many Swiss employers grant on top of the twelve monthly salaries, we include that as well. Our payroll and recruitment specialists then check the ranges against what employers are paying right now.

Do statutory minimum wages apply to us in Switzerland?

Switzerland has no federal minimum wage. Several cantons, including Geneva and Neuchâtel, have set their own, and many industries are covered by a collective labour agreement (GAV) negotiated between employer associations and trade unions. Where the federal government declares a GAV universally binding, its minimum wages apply to every employer in that industry, and the benchmark flags each role that falls under such an agreement. Company size brings a second duty: employers with 100 or more employees carry out an equal pay analysis under the Gender Equality Act, the federal law on equality between women and men, and the benchmark gives smaller companies the same view on a voluntary basis.

How confidential is our salary data?

We work with role-level data and treat every figure as confidential, under Swiss data protection law and a written data processing agreement. The analysis goes to the people you name, usually management and finance. You decide what to communicate inside your team, and we give you the arguments to support it.
